Welcome to Decazeville !

Welcome to Decazeville, a town of nearly 6000 inhabitants twinned with Coazze (Italy) and Utrillas (Spain).

It stands at an altitude of 220 metres, 2,5 miles away from the river Lot, one of the most beautiful French rivers, north-west of the Aveyron département, between Quercy and Auvergne.

It was founded in the XIXth century by Duke Decazes, in order to extract coal from the largest open-cast mine in France and develop iron and steel industry.

On the way to Compostela, between Conques and Figeac, you will appreciate a diversity of landscapes, varied pieces of architecture, and lots of entertainment; and you are sure to enjoy the numerous local specialities this area is also famous for.

Moreover, Decazeville is an important commercial and industrial centre in the Macanic Valley.
